“How many people are trapped in their everyday habits: part numb, part frightened, part indifferent? To have a better life we must keep choosing how we are living.” – Albert Einstein
What a great quote! I love the lesson that we must keep choosing how we are living. I believe that’s what we all need to do as human beings in every moment of our lives: keep choosing our best thinking, our best believing, our best actions. The choices we make in each one of our moments ultimately add up to the kind of lives we create for ourselves.
In denying any responsibly for our life by blaming and complaining about others, you are giving your power away to those people; and I’m sure you know that by now. In blaming the things that happened to you in the past, or the things that aren’t great about your life presently, you empower those events. Because when you blame the status of your life on other people and things, you’re really saying that they’ve shaped your destiny and are the cause of your current conditions. And that’s just not the case.
The choices that have determined the thoughts you’ve habitually thought, the people you’ve surrounded yourself with, the books you’ve read, and the actions you’ve taken have shaped you and defined your life. You’ve created the life you see before your eyes. No one else has. Circumstances do not define a person; they reveal a person.
My point is: I think it is time to take charge of your life by taking responsibility. We really do need to keep choosing how we live in every moment of our days. We must keep asking ourselves, “Is what I’m doing in this instance the best use of my time and talents?” Every moment of our lives is a moment of truth, in a sense. Based on what you choose in each moment, you either grow as a person or shrink as one. Who you are right now amounts to nothing more than the sum total of the choices you’ve made from the day you were born to this day right now. By your choices you will truly determine your destiny.
It’s your life and the choice is yours.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live” (Deut 30:19).
